October was a busy month for us, along with some new faces joining the team,  we have officially settled in to our new premises at 42 Charlotte Square, and are now putting the finishing touches to our new premises.

Going into the last quarter of 2015, we have decided to join various media platforms – LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter – as an additional way of keeping our clients and friends up-to-date with what we are working on, and what we are getting up to each week.

At the end of October we were proud to be celebrating our 17th birthday, which is a fantastic achievement and to celebrate our achievements to date, each day of our birthday week, we took you through the EMA journey – past, present and future.
Starting with our first project – Valleyfield Street, Edinburgh (1999) a challenging project, with 5 storeys of flats over parking and a new facility for the Edinburgh Scout Centre on a very tight city centre site. We finished this project in 2005, having seen 2 contractors go bust in the process. The landowner did well though and emigrated to Australia as a result.

Up next was Galabank Business Park, Widerhaugh, Galahshiels (2000) which saw the redesign and redevelopment of a mismatched collection of partially abandoned and disused industrial, factory and storage units.
Site N1 & N3, Wester Cowden, Dalkeith (2005) followed, with the first phase of residential development within the Wester Cowden Masterplan consisted of 825 new homes along with a village hub. The use of a wide variety of house types including bespoke site specific types, materials including slate and wet dash render, along with careful consideration to boundary treatments and soft landscaping, all helped contribute to create a development of high quality.

Edmonstone Estate, Edinburgh (2010) was our next project, sandwiched between the Edinburgh Bio-quarter and the existing residential settlement at Danderhall. The design included a contemporary approach to the housing within the walled garden and a more traditional approach to the housing within the 8 acre field.
This brought us on to one of current projects – Urban Eden, Lochend, Edinburgh – (2015).The Urban Eden project for Places for People forms the final part of the EMA designed masterplan for this important part of the City. The first phase of development started onsite, with main contractor ISG, in early 2015 with handover of the initial 84 units due in early 2016. Initial sales have been very strong with a further phase due for construction in 2016.

 

 

The EMA team have worked hard in the last 17 years, and we are immensely proud of what we have achieved thus far.
