The design provides a strong urban layout which addresses the requirements of the Portobello North West Development Brief and adds to the rich character of Portobello. It creates a high quality development to reinforce Portobello’s sense of place, enhance the entrances into the site and provide a coherent and welcoming neighbourhood. The development also provides a strong public realm and enhances and encourages movement through the site. Building forms and materials, colours and finishes were carefully chosen to provide a contemporary response, but one which will be rooted firmly in the areas history and tradition.
The development was granted planning permission in 2017 and is currently under construction, with a completion date prospected for 2020.
